Great op-ed article in the New York Times about how the institution of marriage isn't failing -- that our focus on marriage to the detriment of other relationships is a very recent phenomenon -- and instead of bemoaning the state of marriage, we should return due importance to other relationships, such as friendship.

And a recent study supports the view that age-related estrogen loss in women affects the brain's ability to process emotion. The study found older women on hormone therapy responded more strongly to negative scenes (such as a picture of a dead person) than post-menopausal women not on hormone therapy.
