Another interesting article from the Edge: a talk with Nicholas Humphrey about what the self is and why he thinks we have it. Also note the case studies he talks about, of sight without a visual cortex. Thought provoking stuff.

The Guardian has an interesting article on chronobiology, with the emphasis on how physical disorders are differentially affected by our body's clocks (do notice the plural), and the significance of this for drug treatments.

Virtual reality appears to dramatically change how the brain physically
registers pain, not just how people subjected to pain perceive the incoming
signals, according to a new study by a group of University of Washington
researchers.
