Another study on racial prejudice has come out. The study involved showing Black and White Americans pictures of 2 Black and 2 White American males. The viewing of two of these pictures (one Black and one White male) was paired with a mild shock. The researchers found that, while pairing these pictures with a shock induced (as expected) a fear response on subsequent presentations, the learned response faded much more quickly with pictures of the participant's own race. Interestingly, the only factor shown to influence this bias was inter-racial dating. The study suggests that close interpersonal contact between races can affect the bias we show against people who don't belong to our own social group.
