An interesting article in the Boston Globe about mindreading - no, not ESP; mindreading is the very natural human ability to read cues from other people's facial expressions and body language to work out what's really going on inside their heads. All down to the amygdala, it seems.
And a neurological investigation of the infamous placebo effect, showing those under the influence of the placebo effect had increased brain activity in the prefrontal cortex, and decreased activity in pain-sensing regions such as the thalamus, the somatosensory cortex and parts of the cerebral cortex.
